Watch as artist Brett Ashby paints portraits at Pentridge… all while riding a skateboard

Melbourne’s Pentridge Prison has been turned into something of an artsy hub in recent years, with a cinema, gallery and trendy retail precinct. It’s in this setting where artist Brett Ashby has chosen to stage Frequency, a series of performative paintings created whilst Ashby skates up and down ramps. Yes, it’s as wild as it sounds.

Ashby’s art focuses on concepts like exchange of energy, spirituality, and using your whole body to create art. Frequency is showing digitally for Fringe, with tickets allowing audiences to access videos of Ashby creating portraits of Jimi Hendrix and Michael Jackson using his signature, kinetic technique while sound musicians perform on singing bowls, handpan drums and gongs in the background.

You can access Frequency on demand for the duration of Melbourne Fringe.
