THE swift pace of a ping pong ball was the inspiration behind a new piece of public art in Autumn Place, Doveton.
Berwick artist Brett Ashby spray-painted a ‘POPP’ table (public outdoor ping pong table), while simultaneously riding a skateboard.

“The ramps themselves are just over 1m wide, so they are quite skinny, and it’s difficult to try and balance with a steel structure next to you,” he said.

“We did three layers of painting and the stencils were created through workshops with Doveton College.”
The film and animation graduate said he was planning to further investigate “painting in motion”.
“I’ve been practising my own signature style for seven years, which is photographic collage,” he said.
“So, the painting in motion idea is quite new for me and something I will explore further.”
